This is your journey.  Let’s travel together for awhile,

so I can help you start to see your visual stories.

Hi, I am Gina. I love to take pictures, I love photography, and I love teaching about photography.

I have been teaching beginning through advanced photography for four years, and I base my instruction on my belief that having fun is essential to effective learning and successful creative expression.  We will utilize interactive, hands-on learning techniques that are engaging and informative! You will learn how to take control of your camera and to comfortably shoot in manual mode so as to capture those special moments.

I remember the frustration of seeing a moment and not knowing how to capture it. I remember all those questions I had about why I was getting blurry images and how could I get those beautiful backgrounds I was seeing in other’s photos? I remember the frustration I felt when I couldn’t find the answers. In this 3 week course, I will answer your questions and help you learn your camera, so you can acquire the skills and learn the techniques needed to be a successful photographer.

DSC_8487-photowalk poster WEB.jpg

Starting in June 2019, I will be offering guided photo walks.

The first photo walk is Sunday June 23rd, 6-7:30 p.m. and starts at the Chickasha Iron Works building at 100 E. Colorado, downtown Chickasha. This will be a guided photo walk that will last approximately an hour and half (sunset is at 8:49). We will be exploring the downtown alleys and architecture, so it is important to wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

We will meet on the EAST side of the Iron Works building and will have the opportunity to photograph inside one of the rooms that offers various colors and textures, exposed brick, and soft light through the windows. Bonus - several large iron architectural pulleys offer a visual playground!

Chick Iron Works banner.jpg

After spending approximately 30 minutes at Chickasha Iron Works, we will walk along the alleyways exploring. While we walk I will be giving photography tips, answering questions and teaching simple composition elements. At the final portion of the walk, if you want to take off on your own to photograph that is great and encouraged!

What you need: you can use a cell phone, Ipad or a camera. This opportunity is open to all levels of photography.

These photo walks are about meeting up with other photographers and creatives who see the world differently. We find beauty in the mundane. We see interesting subjects. We get excited about how the light falls and how shadows help tell a visual story. We love reflections, colors and shapes.

RAIN: If the photo walk is rained out, the walk will be rescheduled for the next closest date possible.

Sign up with the form below. Arrive a little early (5:45 p.m.). Cost is $15 cash only please with correct change.

3 day workshop OCT 8 15 & 22 POSTER.jpg

LEVEL UP intermediate level

(student should be comfortable shooting in manual mode)

3 week course is designed to teach the hobbyist photographer how to take their photography to the next level.

DATES: Oct 8, 15, 22, 2019 (TUESDAYS) Class time 6-8 p.m.

Schedule:

1st class Tuesday Oct 8 Auto focus modes. Learn which focus mode is best to get sharp images in different scenarios. Emphasis on moving subjects such as kids and sports.

2nd class Tuesday Oct 15 Metering modes. DSLR cameras have an internal light meter that automatically measures the reflected light and determines the optimal exposure. The most common metering modes in digital cameras today are:

  1. Matrix Metering (Nikon), also known as Evaluative Metering (Canon)

  2. Center-weighted Metering

  3. Spot Metering

Understanding how metering works and what each of the metering modes do is important in photography, because it helps photographers control their exposure with minimum effort and take better pictures in unusual lighting situations like snow, at the beach and landscape photography.

if time allows = Note: I will demonstrate how to use fill flash with a speed light when photographing a back lit image (sun behind your subject) but you do not need to have a speed light for this class.

Learn about exposure compensation: When using the semi auto modes Aperture Priority AV or Shutter Priority TV and Program P you can use the exposure compensation to alter the exposure making the photo brighter or darker allowing the photographer to get the photo they want.

White balance and why it is important. The color of a subject is effected by the lighting condition. Sunlight, overcast skies, indoors with incandescent and fluorescent bulbs will make a difference in the colors of your photo. Understanding which white balance to choose is important.

FUN STUFF I will show you how to properly use a reflector! Yes there is actually a correct way to effectively use a reflector.

3rd class Tuesday Oct 22 FIELD TRIP Zoom burst photography. MUST BE COMFORTABLE SHOOTING IN MANUAL MODE

I will teach zoom burst or zoom blur photography. This technique is incredibly FUN. You will zoom your lens in and out while the shutter is open producing creative blur or exaggerated movement in your image. Things you will learn: manual focusing, using a tripod, drag the shutter, using the internal timer and or a shutter release. A telephoto lens 18-55 will work great.

GEAR NEEDED:

Camera and telephoto lens an 18-55 (or equivalent 17mm-50mm or 55mm ) kit lens will work great. You just need to be able to zoom in and out. If you have other telephoto lenses that is great! You will get more blur or exaggerated movement with a larger zoom lens. (70mm-300mm, 18-200mm, 100-400mm or the equivalent)

A sturdy tripod (especially if you want elements in focus)

shutter remote release (the shutter remote release is around $10 on amazon)and OR I will show you how to use the cameras internal timer

ND filter (an ND filter is not needed for this class, but it is fun to know how to use them and an inexpensive one is around $20 - $30 on amazon depending upon your lens mm)
